MasterCard Incorporated was founded by multiple American banks that merged to form the Interbank Card Association (ICA) in 1966. Just three years later, they were represented on a total of four continents and were known as Master Charge; in 1979 the name was then changed to MasterCard. From 1964 to 2003 MasterCard was issued in Europe as the EuroCard. In 2006 the company name was ultimately changed to MasterCard Worldwide and entrance onto the New York Stock Exchange followed the same year.

As a licensor, MasterCard authorizes banks of card holders and merchants to carry out transactions with MasterCard products. Fees and limits are determined variably by the respective issuing bank. Billing occurs either directly, monthly or with individual credit, for which the bank may charge interest (rate determined by the bank) on credit for all late payments. During payments/withdrawals with debit cards (Maestro), you access your own bank account directly and with the Prepaid MasterCard a predetermined amount can be purchased that you can use without a monthly payment. Try it while betting online.

For online payments, the credit card number, expiration date and the name of the holder are entered into the corresponding fields in the payment window. The payment is checked immediately by the credit institution and passed on. The payment takes place in real time. During many mail, telephone and internet orders the card verification code (CVC 2) is requested, which is composed of the last three digits of the card number and is found on the back of the card near the card holder's signature. This ensures that the buyer is actually in possession of the card and is not making use of card receipts, for example.
If you have won some money, for example, in an online sports book such as Ladbrokes, payouts can be made back onto the MasterCard as well. Just the required card information needs to be entered into the payout field of the online trade partner. Direct payouts from online businesses to the credit card take place in real time and the money is often available more quickly this way than with bank transfers.
Most banks determine the incurred fees individually. Some banks may charge a fee, for example, for cancelling a MasterCard credit card, whereas this service is maybe provided free of charge by other banks. Typically, withdrawing money at a cash machine incurs a fee of between 2-3% of the amount and most issuing banks additionally require a so-called transaction fee, which typically amounts to about 1% per transaction. Naturally, when customers are behind on payments, banks will also charge corresponding interest.
MasterCard has become one of the two biggest credit card organizations worldwide. With MasterCard you can pay at over 25 million accepted locations in over 210 countries. Accepted locations are immediately recognizable thanks to the yellow and red MasterCard logo. Nearly all established online poker rooms offer MasterCard as a method of payment, and all poker strategy programs can of course be paid for with MasterCard as well.
The website is available in the following languages, among others: Chinese, Croatian, Dutch, English, French, Finnish, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian etc.
In order to keep the security standard high for customers, MasterCard introduced the MasterCard Secure Code. With this service, an additional input field is activated during online payments, through which the card holder is connected with his or her bank. With the input of this "secure code" (password) the buyer is confirmed as the card holder. Additionally, in the beginning of 2008 Visa and MasterCard agreed on compliance with the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standards, which are to be observed by the entire card payment industry. The set of regulations require, among other things, the installation and maintenance of firewalls and antivirus software and also access limitations of personnel to stored personal data. It is strictly recommended that credit card details only be sent over SSL-encrypted connections.
MasterCard Europe is a subsidiary of MasterCard incorporated, the holding company of MasterCard Worldwide, which is headquartered in Purchase, New York. A comprehensive listing of MasterCard issuing banks in your country can be found on the respective MasterCard local website. MasterCard Worldwide issues licenses to banks for the disbursement of MasterCard cards. As a general rule, these banks then have their own service hotlines, which are available around the clock. Additionally, an international service for emergencies in the USA has been set up by MasterCard. Customers are immediately forwarded to a member of staff, preferably one that speaks the language of the customer (or English, in any case). This support team is also available 24 hours a day, every day. Furthermore, on the website under "Emergency Service," you can send your e-mail address to the support team, who will then make contact by e-mail as quickly as possible.
