Here are my updates from the 5,000 dollar buy-in mixed Hold'em tournament: The field of participants filled up well again with 352 people and it was very strong, courtesy of the bank. Consequently, my table was also very difficult to play at. I never really got to the chips well, though I was also never really in difficulty.
Last night I talked with my friend and team colleague from Fulltilt, Markus Lehmann, and he said he plays according to the motto: Trips don't exist. So I thought I would adopt that for my game now too but unfortunately I have to say that my dear friend, Markus, was pretty far off with his motto in terms of my tournament. I should also know better, actually. Well, in any case, I was taught a lesson twice at this tournament.
I had A-K♠ in the first hand, A-A-6 came at the flop, the turn brought a 7 and the river a queen. I played against 6-6 in this hand…
Then in the second hand I held K-5♠, the flop came with 2-5-T and my opponent hinted at 1,100 in a 1,500 pot. I called. The king came at the turn, I checked, my opponent wagered 2,500 in chips and I raised it to 6,000. My raise was answered by an all-in for 9,000 on his side, which I paid. What did my opponent have? Of course, a pair of tens. So much for the idea, "Trips don't exist." In a field of 150 players I had to leave my seat at the tournament.
Today I'm taking a break from the games, although two interesting tournaments are in the schedule. A no-limit Hold'em 1,000 dollar tournament with re-buys and an Omaha Hi/Lo 1,500 dollar buy-in. Then tomorrow there's the 10,000 dollar H.O.R.S.E event, which is one of my favorites. Last year I was the 26th eliminated, so two positions before the money. I want to improve that this year, of course. However that won't be so easy with my current card situation. All I can do is go into the tournament with a good attitude and hope that the cards come through for me this time. And should that be the case, then I'll really be on fire and that means bringing my opponents to a standstill.
I'll keep you up-to-date.
Bye for now
Your Markus Golser
