Sports Bonus @ Readytobet

As a traditional winter sport cross-country skiing is carried out predominantly in the Nordic Regions and Alpine Countries, where also the most important competitions of this sport are hold. These are organised by the international world association FIS. For not having to wait for the winter to come, one falls back on related sports like Nordic Walking, Nordic Blading or Rollski. With these you can bridge over the seasons without snow. The basic gear of cross-country skiing consists of a pair of poles, a pair of boots and a pair of skis.

bwin In cross-country skiing, three competitions have to be mentioned. Since the beginning of the Olympic Games cross-country skiing has been a fix discipline in this event. Six contests have to be completed, which are partitioned on men and women to three contests each. These three are short distance, team sprint and hard distance. Hard distance has four further subdivisions, which are

  • Hard distance with a start in intervals
  • Double chasing
  • Relay
  • Mass start

The distances for men and women differ and have also changed over the years. In double chasing two runs follow each other in a direct row but are done in two stipulated, different styles. Formerly they were set up on two days. The ski-duathlon replaced double chasing only quite recently. The procedure of doing one run immediately after the other has remained the same except that the second one can be chosen freely.

Already in the 19th century cross-country skiing appeared for the first time, to wit in Scandinavia. In the 80s a further technique developed, the so called skating. Even in the olympic history of cross-country skiing numerous changes took place. Distances were reduced, runs were added and combined races were adjusted.
